About the Daylight
Hmm... well, actually most of this is a couple of years out of date... Just a quick update: I'm now 23 and, live in West Los Angeles. I am the Director of Research and Development for a data storage company called Fantom Drives, and I think I seriously need to take the time to update this page!
In the meantime, if you'd like to see some slightly more-current photos, try these.

Hi, my name is Ryan Stern, I'm 20 years old, and I live in Santa Monica, CA. I am a graduate of Santa Monica High School's class of 1995, and attended the University of California, Los Angeles for about half a year before moving on to a carreer in the computer industry. While at UCLA, I was a member of the UCLA Bruin Marching Band, where I played trumpet (and designed their website!).

I currently work in the service center of Personal Support Computers, an authorized Apple dealer in West Los Angeles, working as both a support representative and as a technician. I also do work as a private consultant for home & business users with Macintosh computers, doing everything from introductory training, to network management, as well as World Wide Web presence! Some of the websites I have developed can be linked to from the Connecting Services page.

I spend a lot of my off hours...well...here, on Baud Town, a multi-user Bullitin Board System (BBS) located in Southern California. Baud Town is sort of like a virtual version of the kind of place that was on the show "Cheers", where everyone knows your name. If you're interested in learing more about Baud Town (or BT as it's called by it's users), be sure to visit it's website, or visit us via telnet at baudtown.com.

If you've taken a look at the Information Super-Railway page you know that I am a complete Mac-head. My main system's current configuration is:

Apple Power Macintosh 9500/120
64megs main system RAM
1gb internal SCSI drive (Apple's IBM made OEM)
2gb internal SCSI drive (Quantum)
Sony Multiscan 20sfII
Apple LaserWriter Select 360
Iomega JAZ Drive
Connectix QuickCam
MacOS System 7.5.5
My current link to the Internet is via a Hayes 28.8 Optima modem, linked with a software package called the Vicom Internet Gateway, which not only provides an internet link for my main system, but also for the other computers on my home network.

My other systems include a Power Macintosh 6100/60 (16mb/250 running system 7.5.5) which also serves as a print server, a PowerBook 160 (14mb/500 running 7.5.5) which goes along with me on road & rail trips. I also have a Macintosh LC and Macintosh Plus (hey, with 4 megs of RAM, it too can run system 7.5.1, though the experience has been described as "relaxing"), both of which are on loan to friends, two Apple IIgs machines (one of which is souped up enough that it outperforms the LC check ), an Apple //c, and somewhere around here, an Atari 800 (and its 300 baud acoustic-coupler modem!)

Aside from computing, I enjoy travel; I love to take trips to "nowhere and back" both by rail and by car. I've been a railfan for my entire life -- even though the Southern Pacific Lines railroad company no longer exists (it was bought out by Union Pacific), it still remains one of my most favorite railroads; the route between Los Angeles and Santa Barbera is easially my choice "day-trip". I also enjoy composing and performing music, listening for my all time favorite song, Carry On Wayward Son, by Kansas, and to cool Beatles songs on ARROW 93.1, eating tripple-cheeseburgers at The Orriginal Tommy's (Vegitarians: sorry 'bout that), Mongolian BBQ with a custom sauce that leaves an ominously RED color behind in the bowl, and at Jerry's Famous Delli.

I also enjoy spending time with my friends Ivan, who is better known around here as Lex, Mayor of Baud Town, Brett, my friend from high-school and college who plays trombone at UCLA, Lauren, another friend from high-school and fellow Macintosh enthusiast, who not only plays cello in the Santa Monica High School Symphony Orchestra, but also wrote their web page!

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed my homepage. Whether you did, or didn't, feel free to send me mail and tell me what you think of it! (or just say "HI!" if that's all you can muster)
